YEARLY CALENDER OF LOCAL FIESTAS.
March 1st - Carnival in Teguise, with the "Danza
de los Diabletes" (Dance of the Little Devils)
one of the oldest customs (over 500 years) in Teguise's
history. “Gran Coso de Carnaval” in Costa
Teguise, parade with street musicians, floats, etc.

May 3rd -“Day
of The Cross” - One of the most deeply
rooted traditions in the Canaries in which all crosses
are covered in flowers.
May 24th to 30th - Canary Week - “Festival
Folclórico Guanapay" (folklore festival),
“Gran Fiesta Canaria” (Canary festival).
June 1st - Corpus Christi Procession,
carpets of salt created directly on the streets of Teguise
by the young and old of the municipality.
July 16th -“Nuestra Señora del Carmen”
- Teguise's big celebration - “Acatife” Folk
Festival, Canary wrestling, processions, street parties,
artisan fairs, offerings to the Virgin. Performance by
the “Esperanza Spínola” theatre group.
Festivities of Ntra. Señora del Carmen in La Graciosa
- boat procession where the locals (Gracioseros) make
offerings to the Virgin.
July 25th - “San Felipe Santiago”
in the village of Tahiche. “Gran Romería”
(pilgrimage) with floats, folk musicians and offerings
to the apostle saint. August 5th - Festivities
of the Virgin of Las Nieves - Pilgrimage from
Teguise to the Hermitage of Las Nieves. Parties, floats
and folk groups accompany the pilgrims (romeros).
December 24th - Christmas festivities,
“Misa del Gallo” (midnight service) with performances
by the “Ranchos de Pascua o Animas”, songs
and dances in front of the Infant Jesus, a custom celebrated
since 1580. |
